Laia Amigó (Granada, 1996)
is a Barcelona-based artist and designer that works mainly with ceramics as her medium.
Within her pieces, she explores
the boundaries between art
and design, creating ‘Functional-Sculptures’.
In 2018 she graduated with a BFA in Industrial design from Elisava School of Design, and in 2020 she graduated with an MFA in Ceramics: Art and Function from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/ EHU) in Bilbao, Spain.
Her work takes inspiration from everyday life, the home, the mundane object, the passage of time, the wear of that passing, and the traces of those that inhabit spaces. Upon graduating, Laia opened her studio Espai Alfar (@espaialfar), there she explores the creation of furniture and sculptural pieces through ceramic techniques. These pieces lie within the boundary of art and design.
As part of her artistic practice, Laia has been a guest lecturer at the Barcelona Museum of Design and the Mayrit Biennal (Madrid Design Biennal); and exhibited at galleries such as Haimney Gallery and Galería Senda. She currently teaches ceramics at La Massana, an Arts and Design School in Barcelona.
